NCOGA JOINS IN FIGHT TO SAVE THE BRONX TERMINAL MARKET
The Secretary General of the National Council of Ghanaian Associations, Alhaji Mohammed Mardah, on Tuesday April 26, 2005, joined some New York City elected officials, merchants, labor groups, and advocates, on the steps of City Hall, to highlight the plight of food vendors at the Bronx Terminal Market, who are being evicted from the area without any alternate site being offered.

At a press conference organized by an organization called Mom and Pop Merchants of New York City, the Secretary General of NCOGA, called on the Mayor and the City Council to help the merchants relocate, rather than evicting them completely and leaving them to fend for themselves. Council members Hiram Montserrat and Charles Barron, also called on the Mayor to act and save those 700 jobs, the number of employees at the terminal market. We are all aware that a lot of those businesses are Ghanaian owned, and most of us shop there.The National Council is calling on all Ghanaians to support this initiative and help save the Terminal Market.
