NCOGA Donates 50 Wheelchairs To Korle Bu Hospital

The National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA) donated 50 wheelchairs estimated at about $25,000 to the National Cardiothorac Center at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on August 8th 2007. Presenting the items on behalf of NCOGA, Ms. Rose Ivy Quarshie, the Deputy Executive Secretary noted that Korle Bu Teaching hospital is the focal point for most medical referrals in Ghana and needed to be supported with the necessary equipment. Additionally, due to the high number of accident cases that were reported at the hospital, there was the need for the provision of adequate wheelchairs to convey patients to and from their wards and also in emergency cases.
Receiving the wheelchairs on behalf of Korle-Bu hospital, Dr. Mark Tettey, a cardiothoracic surgeon noted that the various units such as the accidents, surgical and medical units, required more wheelchairs to assist patients on admission to be carried from one unit to another to receive treatment. The Cardiothoracic Center will not be the only beneficiary other units in the hospital would also benefit from the donation.

Dr. Mark Tettey thanked NCOGA for the donation and appealed to other organizations to emulate NCOGA’s gesture.
